When the woodland comes to life, so do your memories

For a few short weeks each spring, woodland floors transform into a soft sea of violet-blue — the perfect setting for capturing natural, timeless moments with your family.

My Bluebell Mini Sessions are designed to be relaxed, gentle and beautifully simple. No stiff posing, no pressure — just space for your little ones to explore, play and be themselves while I quietly capture those fleeting, in-between moments you’ll want to hold onto forever.

Where your family’s story meets the beauty of the season

What to Expect

These sessions take place in carefully chosen woodland locations across North Hertfordshire, where the light filters softly through the trees and the bluebells create the most beautiful backdrop.

Each session is:

  • Short and relaxed, perfect for little ones

  • Gently guided with a natural, lifestyle approach

  • Focused on connection, movement and real moments

  • Suitable for families, siblings and little ones

The Experience

I’ll guide you where needed, but the heart of these sessions is allowing your family to simply be together. Whether it’s listening to bird song, cuddles under the trees, balancing along logs or children running through the woods — these are the moments that matter most.

I keep sessions calm and unhurried, creating a space where everyone feels comfortable and at ease.

Location

These sessions take place in the beautiful Hitch Wood, Preston (Hitchin) — a peaceful stretch of ancient woodland known for its breathtaking carpets of bluebells each spring. The woodland floor comes alive with soft violet tones, while dappled light filters through the trees, fallen trunks invite little ones to climb and explore, and quiet paths wind gently through this truly special space.

There is a small car park available at Hitch Wood, along with additional roadside parking nearby if needed. I will meet you at the entrance to the woods, directly opposite the car park, and guide you from there.

A gentle wet weather plan is in place, and sessions will go ahead in light rain where possible. However, in the case of torrential rain or weather warnings, sessions will be rescheduled to the following weekend.

Arrivals & Timing

Please note that clients are responsible for arriving on time for their session. These mini sessions are scheduled back-to-back, and late arrivals may result in reduced shooting time and possibly cancellation of your shoot.

We strongly recommend arriving 15 minutes early to allow time to park, get comfortable, and let little ones settle in and burn off that initial excitement. It’s a great chance to get familiar with the surroundings — just please avoid the designated photoshoot area until your session begins and be mindful of others using the woods.

FAQ's

How many people can attend?

These sessions are suitable for a family of five.  If you would like to add further family members please get in touch and we can book out more than one session as logistically you will require more time.

Who is this shoot ideal for?

These sessions are perfect for families, siblings, little ones, and couples who love natural, relaxed photography in beautiful outdoor settings. They’re especially lovely for capturing fleeting moments among the bluebells — playful little interactions, gentle cuddles, and memories that will be treasured forever.

What happens if my child doesn't cooperate?

That’s completely okay.

My sessions are relaxed and child-led, with plenty of space to play, explore and settle in. Some of the most beautiful images come from those natural, in-between moments.

Can we bring pets?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are very welcome! Please just let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly.

What if we're late?

Please arrive on time so we can make the most of your session — the bluebell woods are delicate and we aim to move carefully to protect them. If you do arrive late, I will do my best to fit you in safely, but your session may be slightly shortened to avoid disturbing the bluebells.

Can we purchase prints or albums?

Yes!

Prints and albums are available on request, with prices varying depending on size and style. I always recommend professional printing to bring out the true beauty and detail of your images.

A Gentle Note

Bluebell season is short and dependent on nature, so session dates are limited and may shift slightly depending on bloom and weather. I always aim to photograph at the very best time to ensure the most beautiful setting for your images.

What to Wear

Choosing the right colours can make such a difference to how your images feel — especially in the soft, dreamy tones of the bluebells.

I recommend keeping outfits neutral, soft and timeless so nothing distracts from your connection as a family.

Colours that work beautifully:

  • Soft creams, whites and oat tones

  • Light blues and dusky denim

  • Sage, olive and muted greens

  • Warm neutrals like beige, stone and taupe

These tones complement the bluebells rather than competing with them, helping create a calm, cohesive look across your images.

What to avoid:

  • Bright, bold colours (reds, neons, strong patterns)

  • Large logos or graphics

  • Very dark tones (like black), which can feel heavy in this light setting

A few gentle tips:

  • Coordinate rather than match — think tones that sit nicely together

  • Add texture (knits, linen, soft layers) for depth

  • Keep it comfortable, especially for little ones

If you’re unsure, I’m always so happy to help you plan outfits

Protecting the Bluebells

British bluebells are a protected native species, and their delicate nature means that once damaged, they may take years to return — which is why caring for them is so important

A few housekeeping rules on a bluebell shoot...

The bluebells we photograph are wild, native British bluebells, and they are incredibly delicate. Once damaged, they can take years to recover — and in many cases, they don’t grow back at all.

Caring for these spaces is something I take very seriously, and I ask all families to help me protect them during our time together.

During your session, I kindly ask that:

  • Little feet (and grown-up ones!) stay on the clear paths or open spaces

  • We avoid stepping directly onto the bluebells at all times

  • Children are gently guided not to run through or pick the flowers

  • No flowers are picked or moved

I carefully choose and position shooting spots so we can create beautiful images without disturbing the woodland floor.

These small actions help preserve the bluebells for future seasons — and for other families to enjoy them too.
